Authors can now access AI Voiceovers as Part of their KDP Setup for AudioBooks with AI Voiceovers
Amazon rebranded its Kindle Unlimited subscription to Kindle Plus (Kindle+) , which it launched October 22, 2026 at the same price of $11.99 to $12.00 a month, expanding the service to include thousands of new audiobooks—including titles narrated by artificial intelligence.
Key Details of Kindle Plus and AI Audiobooks
The Rebrand: Kindle Unlimited is now officially called Kindle Plus, though core features remain identical, allowing users to borrow up to 20 titles at a time with no return deadlines.
AI Narration ("Virtual Voice"): Amazon allows self-published authors via Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) to convert eligible ebooks into audiobooks for free using its Virtual Voice AI tool.
Catalog Inclusion: When an author's ebook is enrolled in KDP Select, any corresponding AI-narrated Virtual Voice audiobook is automatically bundled into the Kindle Plus and Audible Plus catalogs.
Seamless Switching: Readers can switch back and forth between reading the ebook and listening to the audio version without losing their place.
Human-Narrated Options: In addition to AI voices, traditional human-narrated audiobooks from ACX (Audiobook Creation Exchange) are also being folded into the U.S. catalog expansion.
Rollout Scope: The integrated audiobook and AI features are initially launching for U.S. subscribers and authors, with plans to expand to international markets like the UK and Canada later.
